Rose Hips (Rosa canina): A Nutrient-Rich Botanical for Skin, Immunity, and Well-being

Writer: The Drovers DaughterThe Drovers Daughter

Introduction to Rose Hips (Rosa canina)

Rosa canina, commonly known as dog rose, produces rose hips, the small, bright red-orange fruits that develop after the rose flowers fade. These vitamin C-rich fruits have been used for centuries in herbal medicine for their immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory, and skin-nourishing properties. Rose hips are a powerful ally in skincare, digestive health, and overall wellness, in fact any hips from any species of Rose can be used medicinally! Do be careful if harvesting your own hips though, the hairs inside the hip are irritating and used to be used by children as itching powder, if making anything with the whole hips always be sure to strain through a fine mesh muslin cloth. Rosehips were gathered during the war to produce Vitamin C rich syrup. I infuse hips in oils for balms and salves and soaps, and they feature in our Nettle Berry Tea, alongside nutrient nettles, elderberries and hawthorn berries, you can find info on all our ingredients on our blogs :)
